(How to) Get Your Ego on Board with Your Spiritual Path
3 simple tricks to dramatically reduce your resistance
So many of us struggle on the spiritual path because we make an enemy out of our Egos. The Ego, in this case, refers to the identification with your self as a separate, distinct (and usually, fixed) concept bound by your body. The Ego is not a bad thing, but finding our “higher self,” our true spiritual essence, means leaving identification with the Ego behind. The problem arises because the Ego does not want to be left behind.
What results is a kind of internal war: part of us wants to retain its worldly identifications — its identity, its separateness, its fears, its desires and its cravings — and part of us wants to release all that noise and simply be at peace. What we find, as we practice, is that fighting the Ego does nothing to reduce its hold. In fact, the more we fight our internal war, the worse it becomes.
We must instead find ways to make peace with our Egos, to get them on board with their own dissolution and release. This might sound counterintuitive, but there are some straightforward practices you can try to make this possible:
